eXtension is partnering with the International Sorghum and Millet Collaborative Research Support Program – INTSORMIL (http://intsormil.org/) and the Center for International Programs at USDA-NIFA to establish a Community of Practice in support of local sorghum and millet producers in Mali (West Africa). eXtension has just completed an in-country needs assessment to learn more about producer needs, potential content providers and information and communication technology (ICT) options to deliver needed information. Our goal is to identify and begin to pilot appropriate strategies later this year.
Also, Kevin Gamble, eXtension Associate Director for Technology, and a group of University of Nebraska faculty recently attended a “Scientific and Institutional Capacity Building to Improve Agricultural Production and Food Security in Partner Countries in Sub-Saharan Africa” workshop in Ghana. The meeting included representatives from the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA), the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), and the Africa Virtual University (AVU). Participating countries are developing program development plans, which will be aggregated into a master plan and shared with prospective donors. eXtension is seen as a venue through which programming can be conducted.
