New on eXtension: Invasive Species, Farm Safety and Health

eXtension Invasive Species launched February 26, the first day of National Invasive Species Awareness Week. The CoP’s focus is invasive plants but all types of invasive species will be added. Invasive plant profiles are a feature. Each profile includes basic information, images, learning materials, where to report an infestation and links to information from universities across the U.S.

The eXtension Invasive Species content leaders are Nancy Balcom, University of Connecticut; Bruce Barbour, Rutgers University; Chuck Bargeron, G. Keith Douce, David Moorhead and Karan Rawlins, University of Georgia; Sam Chan, Oregon State University; and Robert Nowierski, USDA/National Institute of Food and Agriculture.

eXtension Farm Safety and Health (http://www.extension.org/farm_safety_and_health) launched March 1. “Our goal is to become a one stop clearinghouse for all agricultural safety and health information,” said Aaron Yoder, a Community of Practice leader from Pennsylvania State University. The resource area has several articles to create awareness before outdoor spring and summer work begins, including:

• heat-related illnesses and agricultural producers,
• sun exposure and agriculture,
• hearing loss and protection for agricultural producers, and
• youth ATV safety.

The leaders for Farm Safety and Health content are Linda Fetzer, Dennis Murphy and Yoder, Pennsylvania State University; Richard Brzozowski, University of Maine; Karen Funkenbusch, University of Missouri; Dee Jepsen, Ohio State University; Carol Jones, Oklahoma State University; Michael Pate, Utah State University; Charles Schwab, Iowa State University; and John Myers, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
