eXtension Governing Committee Chair Jimmy Henning (l) presents Champion Award to USDA/NIFA’s Brent Elrod

According to nominators: “When it comes to collaboration across organizations and institutions, Brent Elrod may have the ‘corner on the market’ in making these kinds of partnerships happen. Specifically, eXtension is at or near the top of his list when he looks for ways to connect projects, create partnerships, solve problems, and utilize expertise and resources to their fullest potential.”

“Brent is tirelessly looking for ways to help others understand how eXtension can and should be a part of their implementation plans. Common phrases heard from him are, ‘Doesn’t eXtension do that?’ or ‘They should talk to eXtension about getting that done.’ He also sees eXtension as an important part of the future success of USDA/NIFA.

His work on behalf of the Military Families Learning Network with the Department of Defense, Military Family & Community Policy is tireless. In his leadership role, Brent constantly encourages others in Cooperative Extension to work in eXtension. His vision for eXtension moving forward has few limits and he sees tremendous potential that is still unrealized.

Brent’s understanding of diminishing resources is acute and his answer to moving the system forward is eXtension. He is a skilled problem solver and often looks to eXtension to be a part of the solution. He looks beyond government bureaucracy and red-tape as he sees how the CES, eXtension, and Federal partners can improve the quality of life of U.S. citizens. He lives out the notion that ‘anything is possible.’
