To help answer these questions, eXtension is partnering with The New Media Consortium (NMC) to create a custom Horizon Report for Cooperative Extension. NMC has created numerous Horizon reports for K-12, Higher Education, museums, and educational systems in many countries. Named Horizon because it only looks five years out–the scope of the “horizon”–the report will use a panel of 40-50 experts to review futurist research and identify key emerging technologies and methodologies impacting Extension. The report will address emerging trends for the upcoming year, 2-3 years, and 4-5 years.
We are working with the ECOP Innovation Task force, led by Dr. Keith Smith, to produce the report. Leadership for the effort is shared by Dr. Jerry Thomas, Dr. Chris Geith, and Dr. Keith Smith. More information about the process can be found at: http://bit.ly/1QfyN7u. The process will be launched at the March 2016 National eXtension Conference and is scheduled to be completed in September 2016. Initial results will be presented at the September National Extension Directors Meeting.
