September continued to bring good news as blog posts on i-Three Issue Corps projects rolled in, recounting positive results on a variety of innovative climate and food systems undertakings. The call for applications for eXtension’s new Community Issue Corps was issued and received a good response with applications now coming in. All of eXtension Foundation’s new initiatives of the last 12 months were enthusiastically reviewed at the Cooperative Extension Systems annual National Extension Directors/Administrators (CES/NEDA) meeting in Jackson, Wyoming, and we move into fall energized by expectations of greater engagement and value for the Extension professionals we serve.
Recap of NEDA and New eXtension Foundation Board of Directors
Preparing for NEDA occupied much of our focus during September as we had many developments to report in a very short presentation. Since September 2015, we have embraced a new purpose and mission, new outreach initiatives, a new website, new technologies to conduct our activities as well as to teach and support Extension professionals, new business structure and practices, new people and new roles. All were favorably reviewed by eXtension’s Board of Directors, which also held its annual election, adding two new members, Ken LaValley (University of New Hampshire) and Barbara Petty (Oregon State University) and selecting a new Board Chair, Vernon Jones (Langston University).
Important Deadline FRIDAY October 7, 2016: Applications for Community Issue Corps
We are really excited about our newest initiative: the first Community Issue Corps opportunity for Communities of Practice and Learning Networks. Up to 10 new projects or programs from existing or new Communities will be selected to explore a NEW topic or goal with NEW strategies for execution and evaluation that can then be applied to future projects and programs. The Corps experience supports Communities as they design an outreach experiment/research project, define key competencies/deliverables, assess local impact and establish effective communication strategies to broadcast marketing and success.
