What is the change you are designing to achieve?

Nursery growers will improve profitability.

How will you measure that change?

Nursery growers will complete a survey at the end of the 3-day nursery tour indicating economic impact and knowledge gained in specific areas as a result of the Nursery Tour.

What is the innovative component or strategy you will implement as a result of the design-a-thon?

While visiting innovative nurseries in neighboring states, each nursery grower will discuss issues related to variable weather or climate change and explain how they are minimizing risk for plant damage and selecting appropriate cultivars.

How did the design-a-thon help you?

The project design mapping was very helpful in simplifying what the educational program is designed to achieve and gave many new ideas for sharing information, using technology, and evaluating educational programs.

A 3-day nursery, greenhouse, and landscaping tour will be conducted for fifty nursery growers, landscapers, and Agriculture Extension Agents. The tour will visit neighboring states to study how their nursery and landscaping industries are adapting to climate change. The tour will enable nursery growers and landscapers to evaluate new and proven plant varieties that are adapted to our climate and learn about innovative plant production methods.
